Bought an M1 Max 32gb ram MB Pro. The machine is awesome, but running into various issues, which are preventing me from really enjoying this thing.

First, I had bluetooth kernel panics using logitech keyboard and mouse, so I did a clean install, which seems to have fixed issue.

Second, the TS3+ dock seemed to have issues displaying 60hz on my dual Dell Monitors when hooked up to the new computer. I was able to determine that the issue only happens if I use DP inputs on the monitors rather than the hdmi inputs. I also determined the DP input setup works fine with the new MB Pro when set at 30hz. Interestingly, the DP input 60hz setup also worked perfectly fine with my ‘17 MB Pro with 16gb ram, so I have no idea why the DP input seems to be an issue with the new computer. Either way the hdmi setup seems to work, but it is annoying.

Third, now it appears I’m having random situations where the return key on my MB Pro keyboard is unresponsive. It’s completely random, and doesn’t happen that often, but it has happened at least three times, and it shouldn’t be happening at all. I even tried doing yet another clean Monterey install today, and it still happened, although completely randomly. It always seems to work again with a minute or so, but I’m starting to think it’s a hardware issue. Of course, I can just exchange the machine right now, because they are sold out everywhere until end of the month.

Anyone else have this random keyboard issue????

I have run two 27" 1080p monitors on my 14" M1 Max using USB-C to HDMI with no issues. I have tried a USB mouse to USB-C adapter that works great. I have two 4K 27" with DP inputs but haven't tried them yet. Also haven't tried my dock yet either. I will eventually but as to your issues...

A random keyboard issue would be a huge concern. You have now done two clean installs and it still occurs? I would be calling Apple and sending it back. That is too expensive of a machine to have keyboard issues. I get your reluctance given how long the backorder is. I still would call and start the procedure only because I would be afraid of other keys failing.

BTW: my 14" is performing flawlessly with all I have thrown at it to date and I have not had to do a fresh install. I just migrated my data from my 2020 13" MBP and have been putting it through it's paces for the last two days. So far so good!

Thanks for the quick reply! Yea, completely agree. I am worried about the other keys eventually failing. This is a brand new $3500 machine, so it shouldn’t be happening. The other issues I have experienced were annoying, but I think they were Monterey/software related, possibly even due to using migration assistant (which transferred non-compatible files and apps). The keyboard is a major issue though, and I don’t want to take a chance.

With that being said, I may just keep using it until I can walk into an apple store and swap the units right then. I don’t want to wait a month to receive a new machine, and apple already said they would replace this one with a new one. I think I’m just going to monitor local stock and go from there.
