Hi all, I'm using a Mbp 16" M3 Pro and an iPhone 15 Pro (both devices support Wifi 6E) and last week I purchased a new AP, a Unifi U6-Enterprise, which supports Wifi 6E.

Unfortunately I can only get the Mbp to connect to 5 Ghz Wifi 6. I control and confige this AP through a Unifi UDM Pro, and the AP clearly shows the 6 Ghz band and "0 connections" and 5 Ghz band and "many connections" including the Mbp and my iPhone 15 Pro.

Did anybody manage to get the M3 (or M2 if it also supports Wifi 6E) to connect to Wifi 6E at all let alone using an U6-Enterprise)? Are there any configurations through Terminal.app or otherwise necessary for using Wifi 6E? I can't find any Wifi configuration possibilities in Sonoma other then the obvious ones which are not related to Wifi 6E.

Some technical facts:
- Mbp M3 Pro running Sonoma 14.2.1
- only 1 AP, the Unifi U6-Enterprise
- 1 SSID for the 2,4/5/6 Ghz bands
- UDM Pro router
- Mbp is about 6 meters/18 ft away from the AP in an open space
- tried numerous settings tweaking the AP but the Wifi 6E band never shows up on Wifi Explorer nor does config page of the AP show the Mbp as connected to the 6 Ghz band
- read all Apple Support pages on Wifi 6e but no useful information there for my case
According to Apple Suppot I shouls be able to enable/disable Wifi 6E as follows:

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Wi-Fi.
  2. Click the Details button next to the name of the Wi-Fi 6E network you're connected to.
  3. From the pop-up menu next to Wi-Fi 6E Mode, choose Off.
But this is what I see, no Wifi 6E option:

Just figured out the fix!

Since 6E uses / forces WPA3 you could go into your Unifi settings under Wifi and create a second SSID. Give it a name that states it being a 6Ghz band and set it up manually under the Advanced tab. Turn on the 6Ghz band and save it. You should be good to go.

Keep in mind keeping the dual SSID might be wise since not all IOT or older devices support WPA3 yet.
