Hi there... Hope I'm in the right forum.

I wonder if I'm the only one, but I would love to see an entry level MacBook with a big screen, 16" or even 17"...

Call it a 16" MacBook Air.

I work a lot from home at the moment and while nothing that I do is power hungry at all (basic office stuff), a big screen is important. Yes we do have an external monitor at home, but when both, me and my partner work from home, one of us is at the kitchen table, and generally this is me since my 15.4" MacBook Pro (2012 FTW!) is easier to work on than her 14" Lenovo...

And yes, my beloved 2012 MBP has served me well, but I am starting to think about replacing it, especially since it cannot run Big Sur and the new M1 devices are very attractive...

But here comes my issue: I need a big screen (see above) so I would naturally opt for the 16" MBP... But it is VERY expensive and I do not need the extra horsepower it provides... So much so, that I am considering getting a 17" Lenovo for 700€ just for office type of stuff, and use my iPad for the fun stuff... :D

What do you guys think, do we need a 16" MacBook Air?

Can we make #16"MacBookAir a thing?
(I have no idea what to do with a hashtag, I am bad at social media... 😂)

Oh, and with regard to just getting a 17" windows Laptop: I just saw the LG Gram 17... A 17" Laptop at 1,35 kg (3 lbs) with 10th Gen. core i5, 512GB SSD, 8 GB RAM and an advertised battery life of 17h for 1.300€... That is a lot of money, but still HALF PRICE of the 16" MBP!

and an advertised battery life of 17h

From LG's website:

"Actual battery life will vary from specifications depending on model, setup configuration, applications used, features utilized and power management settings. (Measurement Condition: 50% at 150nit Brightness/ Wireless On / Document work (Adobe, Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook etc.) & 50% in standby mode. Maximum capacity of the battery will naturally decrease with time and usage.)"

Hard to have bad battery life if the laptop is on STANDBY for half the charge.

Makes sense... But to be honest: Even half the battery life would be more than enough for me... I wouldn't carry a 17" laptop around very much... :)

Still, it was just an example... I would much rather have a 16" MacBook for that price, but that's not a thing... For now at least... ;)

Seems to be one of, if not the most desired unfulfilled wish people have, and I've seen rumour articles going back to 2011. For whatever reason Apple so far have been extremely resistant to making it. I've always found it bizarre if you want anything other than a 13" ultrabook from Apple you have to go with their flagship workstation.

Maybe Apple Silicon will finally make it 'possible' from their perspective 🤷‍♂️

Hm, I wasn't aware that there was so much demand for it... I had noticed a push for a 17" MBP, for the more "professional" use...

But hey, if there's still that momentum, even the better...

Fingers crossed for M1!

Why not just buy one of those external monitors that attaches to your laptop, runs off of usb and holds the strength right next to your normal screen. Way cheaper than buying a new windows laptop.

Can you specify?

Edit:
you mean something like this: amazon.de?

Looks intriguing... still a workaround, though... but intriguing.

Yup, something like that. They sell some that actually clip to the laptop so that it is all kind of one unit when you’re working on it. But that’s not a necessity.

It’s definitely a work around but I personally prefer 2 monitors to one 17” one. This solution makes it easier to move everything When you need to close up shop ( as opposed to a normal monitor) and allows you to keep email/slack/PDFs/etc on one monitor and then work on the other one, which I find to be much easier than continually tabbing through open apps on one screen.
