So like everything that has to do with computers for me, nothing ever works like its supposed to, my damn itunes is getting the 1604 error when trying to restore my iPhone to the custom firmware.

I'm using a PC and the only solution I've seen is erasing some files by going to library/iTunes/device support or something. Well no one ever explains how to get to those folders and I think it's for macs.

So how do I delete these files on a PC? So that I can get rid of this damn 1604 error?

Please help!!!

What OS are you running? Which version of WinPwn (there's been a rev a day for a couple days).

On Vista, the file you should delete is likely in c:\users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Itunes\Device Support

replace <you> with your username

Once you delete that file, start itunes, then start winpwn, then build you ipsw, then pwn itunes, then restore using the new custom ipsw you created.

Note that many of the 16xx errors can be resolved by trying another USB port - preferably one on the back of the PC (mounted on the motherboard itsef) as opposed to one on the case that is connected via cable to the motherboard.

Let us know how ya get along dawgy.

You sir are the man. You told me exactly what I was looking for, and although neither thing solved the problem immediately, a combination of downgrading to iTunes 7.5, your advice, and like a thousand restore attempts finally worked.

I've been up all night unlocking my old iphone, upgrading iTunes back to 7.7 and importing library, apps, everything. I'm just going to fall dead in my bed and sleep all day.

Thank you summiter, you saved the night.
