Nice. Does anyone know if this drive will fit in a 12 in. Powerbook? I imagine it would use the same size drive as the MBP, but just wanted to be sure.

Not quite...you'll need the ATA version instead of the SATA version...otherwise it's the same. The ATA version has been out for quite awhile now and should be a bit cheaper.

Powerbooks don't use SATA drives; however, you should be able to find a Parallel ATA version of the drive soon if its not out already.

EDIT: WildCowboy is too quick on the draw.

The Seagate version was recently released, right? I'm jonesing for one of those so that I can start having as much as possible on this internal HD. I'm already thinking 60 gigs isn't enough...

i'm finding it hard to find ANY larger drives in stock anywhere other than OWC (who charges way more than I'm willing to spend). Newegg used to have a good selection and now they don't have anything other than 100GBs and that 160 in the OP.

i wonder why that is?

Yes, the Seagate SATA version (Momentus 5400.3) started appearing a couple of weeks ago. Most places are selling it for about $280.

Demand - I would imagine. I have found a few other vendors with the other sizes (such as transintl), but really wanted the 160 as I dual boot and have already managed to fill my 80GB. Also, with the transition to Perpendicular Recording, the drives are only going to get bigger - so why continue making 120GB drives using "old technology" for example...

makes sense, but right now the 160 drives are still pretty expensive (although newegg and zipzoomfly offer really nice prices compared to OWC).. so the 120 is a nice alternative.
