iPhone 16gb and iCloud or 64gb?

Just after a bit of advice really.

I currently have an iPhone 5. I've had it for three years and want to upgrade to the iPhone 6s.

I have a 16gb 5. With 716 photos. 39 apps. 16 songs and 7 videos.

I still have 5gb free after 3 years.

Last year I had a bit of a purge and removed half the photos (Was actually attempting to clear my 'others' as it was taking up 4gb) but besides that I've never done anything to conserve space. I rarely take videos (can only recal doing so once in the passed year at my best friends wedding). I have an iPod which stores all my music so have just a few songs that I use for alarms etc. I use my iPad for videos and games.

But apps are getting larger. As are photos and videos.

The plan was to save until I had enough for the 64gb phone just to be on the safe side. But I'm £80 short (I put money into a savings account each month to enable me to buy my phones outright- but had a set back and had to spend some of the cash). I have exactly enough to buy the 16gb.

But now the JB is out and I don't want to miss the JB window. If I do then I'd hold of buying altogether until there was another JB available. And we all know there's no time scale there. I could be waiting months.

So I'm just wondering what others would do in my position. Go buy a 16gb and get an iCloud package to upload all photos and videos to as they're what take up the most space.

Or hold off and wait till I can afford the 64gb.

Sorry for the long post.

Basically. What would you do in my position?

It's hard to recommend 16gb when apps and features are taking more space. Live Photos, 4K video, etc. iCloud storage is getting cheaper so it's really up to you if you want to pay $100 more up front and have all your photos local or spend $1 a month to have "optimized" photos locally and full resolution photos available for download.

Personally I would wait and get the 64gb iPhone. I think there will be either a 9.1 or 9.2 jailbreak based on how quickly jailbreaks seem to be coming out of China. It is a gamble however so I understand your concern with the timing.

I would wait to get the 64gb. If you're on a non-jailbreak version of iOS, it'll be only temporary. A jailbreak will come soon enough for that version or a future version. If you get a 16gb your stuck with it.

I would take the 64GB especially now that the apps are larger and you keep your phone a couple of years (so future proof). A jailbreak will eventually come along but like quietstormSD says, you will stick with your 16GB phone otherwise.

Wait for the 64gb it is! I do plan to keep it for at least two years and I know realistically that 16gb just won't cut it these days.

I never buy an upgrade until the jailbreak is out. I find stock iOS too frustrating. So when I do have the extra £80 I'd sit tight until the JB was released.

Fingers crossed it's not a super long wait.

I don't really have heaps in my memory. I still have just over 7gb left. I also use DropBox for my pictures.

I've always gone 16gb too.

I planned to keep my 5 for two years and ended up keeping it for three. This has shown me that really I've not been bothered about upgrades so plan to keep the 6s for 2/3 years.

I just think with everything getting larger. Apps. Pics etc. I need more space to future proof. But the JB being released has made me rethink.

its stupid to pay for iCloud for photos, use google photos for free for backups unlimited...

As for the size recommendations I would say 64GB. Just the apple apps alone take a substantial amount in a 16GB phone, plus live photos and higher resolution for both photos and videos.
