Hello everyone, I'm debating on weather getting a 16gb or 32gb.
But I can't decide on why would I need more than 16gb since I never owned one and don't know what will I be doing with it exactly.

If anyone can help me I greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

If you have the $$ get 32GB

If you have the money definitely go for 32GB. I was tossing between 32 and 64, I didn't see me using more than 32 and yet here I am currently using 40GB. You never know until you get it. You may decide to put some movies on it, you may use more apps than you though you would. You may buy heaps of music. If you have the money I recommend 32GB.

Which iPad To Buy? Get the 32GB iPad With Wi-Fi + 3G. Here’s Why.

If you have the money, get the 32GB version, you never know how much you will fill up with applications, music or movies.

Get the max, 64Gb and 3G... if you begin to use it and like it = it will easily fill up repeatedly!

This is not necessarily true. There are plenty of people who really don't keep a whole lot of media on their ipads but use it fanatically.

I have the 16 and only have 8 in use. I'm not a collector. I have a dozen apps I use daily, I try different apps all the time and delete them if I don't use them. I watch movies all the time, but when I'm done I remove from iPad, those get archived to an external drive.

I'm a prolific picture taker, but I create albums to show and synch those as needed.

To each his own, but I've never been close to 16 even when preparing for a trip or week of business meetings.

Thanks everyone for your quick response and opinion to help me.

First of, I am not an AT&T subscriber so I won't be getting the 3G version. And it kinda seems a lot for me to shed out more than $500 for this toy at the moment. So I will go with the safe side and get the 16gb and see how it goes.

But if I find a great deal on a 32gb I will def go for it.
I guess time will tell what will I be using it for since I don't know what I can do with it till I grab one.

Thanks again everyone

Get a 3G (this is not negotiable for multiple reasons) and the biggest memory you can afford - 32 at least. The reason is, beyond all the other arguments, resale - the higher specced models will have a better resale. which is a good thing when it comes to upgrading.

Disagree. I would get the highest amount of space you can afford and not 3G. I have never once not found free WiFi and ATT sucks. 32 is $100 more than 16. You will be making a big mistake if you get the 16.

I don't think 3g is necessary if you already have a web enabled smartphone on a 3g network.

But if you can afford it and you need it, then 3g is great to have. I don't think MOST people really NEED the 3g version.

I would also suggest at least 32gb if you can afford it without issue. If it is stretching you at all then go for the 16gb. They both are great and you shouldn't push yourself uncomfortably with your finances to move up a level of memory.

For me the 64gb wifi was perfect because I don't want another monthly data bill and I like to carry all my media with me if I can.

Personally, I compromised. I wanted a 64GB iPad because I thought it would be nice to be able to carry my entire music library with me. But I also wanted Wifi+3G, because part of the reason i wanted the iPad was for travel - I'm not always *at* a wifi hotspot. So I backed down on memory to 32GB and got the 3G. I felt this gives me the most flexibility - plenty of space (I have a 32GB iPhone and I almost never fill that up) - and the ability to use 3G data - *IF* I need it.

i would go with 16gb if you are just gonna use for music and apps. because i have 32GB and i used up only 2 GB so far and i have all the apps that i want in my ipad already ... so if have to do it all over again i would go with 16GB... Like i said it's really depend on how you want to use it...

I don't know why people argue about this point as if there's a one size fits all solution. There isn't. The decision about whether or not to get the 3G option depends purely on one's circumstances. If you use your iPad primarily in places where WiFi is an option and you rarely travel, then there's no need for the 3G. If you can't afford two data plans, then there's no need for the 3G. I could go on and on.

I personally have WiFi in most of the places I find myself. Nevertheless, I'm getting the 3G version because I want the option. I do travel from time to time and I do find myself in places where I would like to use my iPad but can't because there's no WiFi.

^^^^ This is the most sensible thing I've read in this thread, especially the part I've highlighted.

We have a total of six ipads in our extended family--three are 3G models, three are wifi. Three 16 GB, two 32 GB, one 64. All are used very differently. I personally went with the 16/wifi because I don't do video at all, all my music is stored on my iPhone, and I didn't want an extra 3G bill to pay for a device that rarely leaves the house. I still have 9 GB left, though mine's in use about 10 hours a day. My husband went 32/3G-- he loves to watch movies on his, put a bunch of music on it, and it goes everywhere he does. The other two large capacity/3G owners travel around two weeks out of every month, and need both connectivity and storage.

Different needs, different devices.

I usually agree with the "buy the best you can afford" rule, but the iPad is built to take advantage of cloud storage in a big way, and depending on what it's used for, maxing everything out on it may just be a waste of money. It absolutely would have been in my case.

I agree that the iPad is not a one size fits all proposition, and in the end, it's arguments for resale value that seem to try and play the trump card in these debates.

I wholeheartedly agree that a 32gb 3G model will have a higher resale value than my 32gb WiFi, but I'm guessing that it'll be right around $130 higher, which I just happen to be OK with. :)

To the OP, listen to your heart.

16gb... if you don't have tons of music/video. This was more than enough for me.

In my thinking, this technology is moving so fast, that any investment beyond the cost/benefit price point (which to me is 16gb) will be diminished quickly by the next generation.

Sigh.

I have answered this question in so many other threads already.

16Gb: If you're purchasing iPad to do web-browsing, take meeting notes, be productive and use tools such as Drop Box and Good reader without added bulk of carrying overly watched movies and 10GB of music

32GB: Same as above but you have a lot of content such as many movies, vid podcasts, iTunes U vids, over 10GB of music... blah blah

I got the 16GB and have many vids from iTunes U and do a lot of productive work and still have about 7GB free.

I never said it was one size fits all. The OP was asking if people thought he should get 16 or 32. Some suggested he get 3G. I answered appropriately. You should absolutely ALWAYS get the most memory you can afford. Choosing a 16 3G over a 32 WiFi is just stupid, especially if you have a smart phone.

I travel all the time. I've never been in an airport or hotel that didn't have WiFi. Plus, I can live without being in contact with the whole world for a few hours a day. My last trip was awesome - I turned my phone off and didn't go on the Internet for a whole week. It was great. I did, however, us my iPad a tone - to read, listen to music, watch video and play games. It's an awesome device.

Again. Get the highest amount of memory you can afford - even if you have to sacrifice 3G. 16 is nothing.

Yes, I agree.
I have 32GB and don't regret the decision.
