Over at this Macbook thread mwhities was able to install 16GB into a mid 2010 13" Macbook 2.4 Core 2 Duo P8600 that was otherwise stated to be limited by Apple to a max of 4GB and by OWC to a max of 8GB.

Can anyone with a Mid 2010 Mac mini and (2x8GB) 16GB DDR3 RAM in a different machine try it in their Mac mini?

Why do you say that? Why can't other brands be used?

yes but only one ram from one company works. mushkin makes it ;

I am not sure if you can find a better price and I am not sure my memory (pun)

is perfect that this works.

there is a thread on this site. maybe someone with better memory then mine (pun intended) will chime in and let you know that the mushkin will do the trick

If you have any of the following Mac minis and have access to (2x8GB) 16GB DDR3 RAM and can verify that the memory will work kindly share it with us.

Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 (Early 2009)
Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.26 (Early 2009)
Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.26 (Late 2009)
Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.53 (Late 2009)

the post as I recall said that this is the only ram that works. It is buried on this site somewhere. I am going off my memory and while I am certain that the thread seemed legit I did not bother buying that ram and testing it on my 2010 mini.

found the thread for you

it was a different mac mini forum! seems like mushkin is 1066/1067 and has tested to work.

I have a MBP that takes the same memory and look into whether I could add 16gb to it or not. I basically ended that idea when I couldn't find any 1067 8gb sticks of ram. I wonder if its a matter of nothing else will work of if its really just that mushkin is the only available source of ram to get 16gb of 1067.

yeah I think only mushkin makes the ram.

So, the good news: I don't have to buy another 16Gs ram. My 2009 Mac mini didn't like it at all. As soon as I turned it on, it started beeping. 3 beeps. I removed them, then added the 8Gs back in and it worked. So I took them out to try the 16Gs again and samething.

Bad news: The 16Gs of ram doesn't work in my 2009 Mac mini.

I added the ram to my Macbook and it's working flawlessly. So, that's that.

may I ask what ram did you try?

never mind I see you had the mushkin.

Yeah, the one that I had linked earlier. I wish it did work but, I'm glad it didn't. Wife isn't liking me buying all this near Christmas. :)

yeah that 2010 mini is really choosy about ram. I have put 8gb ram in 30 or so of the 2.4's my failure rate has been 20 sticks .

so to do 60 sticks I had to buy 80. of all the ram i put into the 2010's the samsungs were good.

pny was really good for a while then they sold 10 bad sticks out of 20. I am thinking that the mini could work with 16gb but that you need really perfect run of that particular ram. I have done hundreds of sticks of ram in minis from 2006 to 2012 and the 2010's were the hardest to get ram to work.

Reminds me of how picky the old G5 Powermacs were with ram. Sheesh, what a nightmare that used to be. Interesting to know that the 2009 Minis won't take 16gbs.
