Will anybody notice a difference?

I just ordered the new retina 27" iMac. I got the 4.0 guard i7 and 1tb SSD.

I just ordered the base 8gb of ram cause I can steal 8 or 16 from my late 2012 that currently has 24gb.

I was thinking of just stealing 8 form that as it would be a more attractive sell for my 2012 to have 16 gb.....

Thanks in advance.

It's always cheaper to buy 3rd party RAM. I always only order base RAM from Apple. But to answer your question. 24 is better than 16.

I've been running the Beta for a couple of weeks on my 32GB iMac. My understanding is Yosemite was designed to use available RAM (someone on another thread posted that). With light–to–medium usage, I rarely go below 20GB free. The only time it's gone below that is with heavy iPhoto usage.

And what should I say with my 2011 15 inch with still 4GB RAM?

That still works and I have nothing to complain about. It has of course a SSD thats makes paging out not terrible but my Memory pressure is almost always green.

And I actually work on this machine, wow! I'm a programmer and dont need that much yes, because I dont handle really large files.

Back in 2011 I thought the first thing I do is to stick 16GB in this machine but then waited and never needed to do it.
