I didn’t seem to have this problem until 17.0.3, but it now seems that swiping down from the center of the screen (above the dynamic island) is super unreliable for opening Notification Center now. Sometimes it works and most of the time it doesn’t, and the dynamic island bubble just swells up a little bit as if it thinks I want to interact with it. Seeing this on 15 Pro Max, on two phones. Anyone else noticed this? 🤔

My 15 Pro Max is the first phone I’ve had with the dynamic island. I just assumed you couldn’t swipe down over the dynamic island. I’ve been swiping down to the left of it.

That definitely works, but according to Apple it's supposed to work from the center of the screen as well:

Open from Notification Center

Notification Center shows your notifications history, allowing you to scroll back and see what you've missed. There are two ways to see your alerts from the Notification Center:
  • From the Lock Screen, swipe up from the middle of the screen.
  • From any other screen, swipe down from the center of the top of your screen"

Yup, you can from the center but you need to start from the very top before the Dynamic Island for it to work

Yeah, I've tried that multiple times. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Very unreliable.

Not seeing the problem here, but my 15 Pro is naked. Cases can prevent hitting the screen at the very top - I don’t know if there’s simply no “sensitivity” on the island itself or if it’s software, but with many cases what you’re describing is absolutely a problem.

Yeah it’s because with a case you can’t get far enough above the dynamic island to trigger it. It’s annoying after years of using the middle to now have to re-train to swipe down from the left.

I don’t use a case, so that’s not the case in this situation (pun intended). I’m seeing this behavior on my wife’s 15 Pro as well, so that’s 3 phones. Not sure what’s going on 🫣😨

And to be clear, sometimes I can get it to work 12 times in a row, and then it fails the next 2 times, and then works the next 7 times. Versus a 100% success rate swiping down from the upper left corner. (And when it fails, it’s not because I’m swiping it in a different way or missing the proper zone).

Not seeing the problem here with iPhone 14 Pro either and I'm using (the Apple leather) case. Just swipe down from case or from when your finger touch the case and Notification Center will show 100% of time.

Are you swiping dead-center down the screen, in the exact middle of the dynamic island? If you swipe off to the side a little bit so that your finger passes over the left/right of the island, it’s not as unreliable. Also might not be an issue on the 14 🥸

It’s strangely intermittent, too.

I've been messing around with this for a few days now to try to figure out what's going on.

What I've found is that it seems that there's a very small dead-zone above the dynamic island (maybe like 10-20 pixels wide), to the left-of-center. Basically, about 1/3 of the way across the island, from the left. If you swipe down in that exact area, you can't pull down the notifications, and it just jiggles the dynamic island instead.

That's the only spot where it happens. If you swipe down exactly in the center, it's fine. If you swipe a little to the right, its fine. It's just that spot to the left that doesn't work. Of course, since it's limited to that tiny spot, a lot of people aren't noticing it. Although I have started seeing a couple posts on reddit with people mentioning this over the last week.

Hoping they fix this in 7.1...
