Voice-to-text is mostly broken for me after update from 17.0 to 17.1.

At least in Safari and Reddit. Haven't done extensive testing.

It will SOMETIMES work for a few words. But when it does, it now ignores attempts at adding punctuation, newlines, etc.

Mostly, though, it doesn't work at all.

I also don't understand the purpose/use of the redundant microphone icon that gets added at the insert point, but that's just me not searching for what that means. Tapping it doesn't help, in any case.

It worked fine yesterday, prior to update to 17.1

Do others have similar observations, or a fix?

I already checked permissions.

Edit: solved. Bluetooth connected to headphones in the other room. D'oh!

Many headphones (these are Sennheiser Momentum 4) have such good range now with Bluetooth 5.x, I can go anywhere in my house with the headphones on and not take my phone with me. So, it's easy to forget they are connected.

I have no problems using it to have this text typed. Safari on iPadOS 17.1 (21B74).

False alarm.

Had Bluetooth connected to my headphones in the other room.

It was occasionally picking up a few words, lol

Leaving this for others.

Wait, there may actually be something that changed here.

I had the problem again. What's been happening is that I use Bluetooth settings to disconnect my headphones.

Later, I'm carrying my phone, and I go walk past the headphones that are sitting on my desk, and the phone reconnects.

So, I try to VTT or play some audio, and I have to disconnect again.

FWIW the headphones are Sennheiser Momentum 4. You don't normally turn them "off", just take them off your head, and the sense you are not wearing them.

The behavior seems to have changed with the installation of iOS 17.1 That is, it was OK before 17.1

At least now I know what is going on.
