I received my 17" C2D MBP and set it up this weekend. As soon as I started actually using it, having calibrated the battery, I noticed that it buzzes! In fact, the buzzing is correlated to the screen position. In some positions, closer to closed than open, the buzzing really goes away, but if it's almost fully open, the buzzing gets loud. I can sort of stop the buzzing a bit by pressing down on the top of the screen a tiny bit - but it won't go away completely. When it sleeps, the buzzing stops. You can imagine how annoying this is. I called Apple's phone numbers to talk to a representative, punched through all the numbers to get to the correct department, and then their line just keeps going dead with a constant busy on me.

Clearly this is a defect. I am assuming that the new MBPs are silent. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Any information or recommendations would be most appreciated,

Thanks in advance,
Andy

I have heard about the moo issue in previous models, but have not experienced it myself, so don't really know. I will tell you this - it's more of a buzzing whine - and if I grab hold of each side of the screen and hold it firmly in place - it stops for the most part.
Does that speak of vibration - possibly.
But for more than $3500 - this is simply unacceptable quality control.

There was a string of bad lcd power inverters some time ago - you may have one of those. If so - the defective inverter will have to be replaced.

Thank you for that information. I can't tell you how disappointing this is. Is there a link or forum that discusses this in more detail. I'd like to be somewhat prepared for my conversation with apple tomorrow. Unfortunately there's no "good" outcome - if they immediately replace the machine, I have to spend at least a day re-configuring all the software. If they want to repair it, which is more likely, who knows how long it will be gone. This is why quality control is so important to customer satisfaction.

I'll add one more thought. I sincerely hope Apple is reading this forum to make sure they're ahead of the curve on any issues. That way maybe they'll contact me and resolve everything. That's something Walter Mossberg might appreciate.

Andy - just do a search for "buzzing" screens OR power inverters - you'll find plenty of info - and that is just a guess as to the cause.

The Migration assisstant is kind of "dodgy" - so I agreee the some hours of work will be needed

I did a search. Thank you for the information. I couldn't quite tell if there was any truly recommended action other than calling Apple and getting a replacement. Is there? I've had this machine up and running for only about 72 hours now!
