the backlighting is about what i expected... i haven't run any tests yet... just doing initial configuration, but no massive flaws noted just yet.

this sucks

I'm sitting in the most useless meeting ever, surfing the web on my blackberry. And my new 17 is sitting in my trunk still.

Exciting!

I have just one question. How far back does the screen tilt? As far as the Powerbooks? Same as previous MBPs? Or somewhere in between?

I can't see the pictures bcs of stupid Websense at work!

So tell us what you think? The comment about backlight being "about what expected" did not sound very encouraging, given that our expectations have been set pretty damn low by the experience with the 15" model :(

A photo is going to exaggerate any unevenness. Just for fun, I ran Pixel Check on my PB 17" and it has same vignetting in the top corners, bottom light areas and a noticable hot area in middle.

However, it looks virturally even in person. All notebook displays will be slightly brighter in the bottom half than top - there's only on lamp.

I'm hoping to see the C2D 17" in person very soon.

on store waiting list - is that the phone? ;)

Keyboard and Trackpad are very smooth! the only problem (and it's very big) is the screen is very uneven. In the lower right hand corner there is a hot spot and all throughout the screen there are streaks of unevenness...so I will be taking this in for repair in the next week or two (once they get parts in) to get the screen replaced.

Glossy or matte ? Do you think this is the same issue as whith the 15" ?

I have the Matte Version. But I don't see how this can be just affecting matte screens, because it is clearly an uneven backlight issue. I am not familiar with the 15" issues.

I'm real sorry to hear that.
