17" CD MBP to 15" C2D MBP - your thoughts

I currently own a 17" CD MBP and have experienced two problems that are making me consider a change to the new 15" C2D MBP:

Glossy screen - I think I am developing a sort of eye strain/fatigue with this screen. I have searched all over hill and dale to find others with the same problem, but it seems like they are few and far between. I really wonder if I would be better off with a matte screen.

Heat - this computer gets pretty warm. 60 degrees celcius, fans on 2K RPM (smcFanControl), web/mail/Calendar and maybe Word running. I would really like a "laptop" computer.

My question to you all would be do you think the change to a 15" Matte would be a good change? Methinks I could score a new 15" with the money I'd get from selling this one on ebay + a couple hundred more.

Or should I just keep my dough and plow along with what is really a very nice 'puter.

First time iv'e heard "puter" but anyway I think that the eye problem is most likely because of looking too close to a large screen rather than the glossy being the sole problem, but yes a 15" matte would be much better. As for heat, since I do not own myself I can't say I know how big of a difference it will make, but I'm willing to bet that it runs cooler than the CD. my 2 cents.

You aren't alone. I just sold my 17" CD MBP on Friday, and my 15" C2D MBP will be here tomorrow. My issues with it were mostly based on the screen size. It was too awkward to use while walking. (yes, I do this a lot) and more annoyingly, the LCD would NOT stay up while I was laying down in bed.

I had a 15" CD MBP before the 17", and after about 4 months I really missed it. As for selling it, I dumped it as quick as possible, and only got $2k for it. I know from looking at ebay that I could have gotten closer to $2400, but I was really concerned with making anything on it, I just wanted to cover what the 15" was going to cost me.

To the OP:
I have a 15" C2D MBP and it's really cool. (cool as in awesome and cool as in cold)
It runs at about 35-50 degrees Celsius.

Thanks for your thoughts. Point taken on the screen size - it is really quite large for my uses.

Glad to hear the new MBP is cooler. I suspected it might be d/t the different venting, etc.

17" Hd Powerbook

Well, I have a 17-inch high-def screen powerbook that replaced the 15" high-def screen powerbook loaned by my office. I find the larger screen far preferable, and much easier to use for long periods. I wonder whether your eye-strain is because of the glossy screen -- the Pbk came only in the matte screen. I find that in most programs, I make the text pretty large so that it is easy to read. That way I avoid eye strain.

Although i agree with the 15" suggestion a couple of things to keep in mind are
1. the 17" has a larger case (duh) so it releases heat more efficiently than the 15". althoug the C2D would be cooler still it will not be the same difference between a 15" CD and a 15" C2D.
2. Having a smaller screen could also give you a bit more eye strain
