Hey, the title explains it all. I need a quick decision. I've pretty much decided on glossy, but I'm torn between the 15'' (2.2ghz) and 17''. I would probably get the 17'' but its not LED. Obviously, this baby would be an awesome sight with its huge screen, but I hate the fact that it's screen would deteriorate over time. I've heard that the 15'' LED's are amazing, and don't wear out. It's an extremely tough call. I need a laptop that will last me for about 2-2.5 years. Please feel free to ask for any further information. Also, tell me how the matte has changed on the screens, regardless if they are LED or not. Thanks. Please reply!!!:D

Well I bought a 15" with LED (Matte) and got it yesterday. I wasn't sure about my choice (Matte over glossy) until yesterday when I tried the laptop. The colours are incredible, it's very nice. Not sure about the 17", but I had a Compaq V2410 laptop last year and the screen wasn't that bright. Not sure if it's because of the LED backlit but it's definitely clearer and brighter than what I had. In fact, it's brighter than most of laptops I saw over the years (And I worked for Staples for one year selling laptops).

The 17" is too big for me. The 15" is already at the limit of what I call a "laptop".

The 17" MacBook Pro's screen will NOT deteriorate over time! It will last you 10 plus years. So if LED gets you 1 hour more battery life, and you need it, get the 15" MBP otherwise get the 17".

Why would you get the 2.2GHz 15" model when the 17" model is 2.4GHz...

Assuming you take good care of it, the old screen (non-LED) will last longer than 2.5 years. My PowerBook screen still works, just the logic board that doesn't. Don't worry how long the screen will last. It'll last you for what you want.

I don't feel that the 2.4ghz 15'' is enough to make me spend $500 extra. Also, I know the screen will work but how much will it dim over time? Thanks for replying, you and the other guy!

The screen on the 17" High-Res is just bananas from what I've seen in the store. If you want a true desktop replacement without the need to consider an external monitor, I would go for it.

Not speaking from hands-on experience (outside of a few hours at Apple stores), but I was in the exact same boat as you and and I decided on the 17". Go check it out for yourself if you can.

For what it is worth to you, I bought the 15" 2.4 with LED (Glossy) and it came yesterday. So far it is the nicest laptop LCD I have ever seen. I am extremely pleased with it to say the least. Also there is more than just extra battey life with the LED screens. When ou see them next to the older LCD in the other units, you just can't believe the difference in clarity and colors. At least that was my take and my wife and daughter both said wow when they seen it there in the store. Anyhow good luck with whatever you choose.

Just want to throw in that yeah, a regular CCFL lit screen will last WAY longer than 2 1/2 years. Theoretically they won't last as long as LED lighting, but theoretically CRT's fade too. My oldest LCD is 3 years old, and looks no different from when I bought it. I've really never seen a CCFL lit screen fade noticibly in normal use, and I think I've seen only one CRT that had (and it was on tons, and was over 5 years old).

It might be different if you keep the screen on 24/7 though.
