I was recently given a 17" 1 ghz iMac. I want to upgrade the memory to atleast 1 gig. It has 256 now. Apple says that you can only install 512 sticks in the user accessible memory slot on the bottom of the iMac. I found a 1 gig stick that I would like to install there which would put the total system memory at 1.2 gigs. Has anyone done anythine like this? I don't want to waste the 70 bucks if this won't work.

I appreciate your help.

The official mac specs are 1 Gig max for the ram, but I have the same iMac with 1.25 Gig. Mine has the 256 MB internally and 1 GB in the user accessible slot.

Great! Thanks for your help. I'm going to order the RAM now.

My memory and MacTracker say otherwise...
