17" MBP price drop :-(

im bummed, ordered a 17" MBP on 4th of may, expecting delivery today
just checked the Oz store and found that Oz Pricing for the 17" has come down $200 (in my case $176, EDU Pricing).
also, an option for getting a glossy display (dont care about this, glossy displays aren't suitable for the work i do).

but $176 (geez a 1Gig Stick of RAM costs that much).

i know i gotta live with it, but i havent yet got my machine so im a bit pi***d off.

call Apple and voice your issue. There have already been successful attempts at credits. Don't just complain about it...be about it!

Exactly, Apple should do something about it. Specially if they dont inform clients about FUTURE price drops.

boo hoo, how do you think i feel? i got a 17" pb in september only to hear about the wonderful macbook pro a few months later. id do anything to dual boot

alright, that aside i can understand your disapointment. apple loves nothing better than to sell you a computer today, and keeping the secret that they will release something twice as good tomorrow

I just went to the Australian Apple Store online. The price for the 17" MBP is $4,399 Australian Dollars. I converted to US dollars, and that's just about $3,400 US dollars! That's $700 US dollars more than what I paid?

called apple to check up on my delivery status (we dont get tracking numbers here).

the rep casually asked me if i had checked the online store today, i said yeh i saw the new macbooks, et al (engaged in a bit of small talk).

then i just told him the price on the 17MBP had come down, he checked it online and gave me a $176 refund. woohoo, awesome service, now only if my MBP gets here soon enough (its already 2 pm here).

you might have paid edu price or something,
edu price here equates to $2950 USD ->stock 17MBP
its still a bit of a rip off considering we're closest to china...but i guess is justified by the ever changing exchange rate, smaller market, etc

It's $2700 US here for the MBP, no EDU discount. You guys are paying a higher price for the same unit. I guess the price fluctuates in different markets (and the exchange rate changes things).

i think inc tax edu price over there is 2800 USD
therefore we are paying a permium of about 150 USD, but exchange rate fluctuation, smaller market and other factors equate to a higher price for apple products here...
btw, just got my MBP delivered, beautiful machine, loving it. hehe.

I believe it's standard Apple policy to offer a refund or exchange within 14-days of delivery, assuming the box is un-opened.

When the iMac iSight G5's were announced, a couple of hours before my iMac Rev.B was delivered - I called Apple, they offered to refund me CDN$400 or cancel the Rev.B. There was no price difference between the Rev.B & Rev.C.

the extra is probably tax, some inport tax plus sales tax, for example I purchased an iMac CD in germany, with 3 year apple care and up the ram to 1GB, with not paying the german tax (I a US Soldier, so I get stuff tax free), I paid $24 dollars over the Apple Store US price. Now if I had purchased this in California, I would of paid more, because of california state sales tax.

i think ozzie shipments began on 7th, i ordered on 4th and it said 9-11 bus days,
it shipped on 7th....

i got a refund on my card, although the rep gave me an option of getting e-store coupon for future purchase.

You can always receive your computer and simply return it within 14 days (without opening it of course) for a full refund. Since Apple covered the difference already, you are good to go.
