Are you guys stumbling across any of the issues with the 15" ones? The whine, heat, screen, keys, anything else?

Please let me know! Thanks

I don't have one but it seems like with the larger space the heat will disperse easier...But I generally don't like 17" notebooks.

The MacBooks will be that size...But I do hope that there will be something as good as the Pros in that size, that is the best size for notebooks I think

Then don't get one.

Some of us want big. Hence the orders placed for them.

I think he's questions was "are you happy with your 17 inch MBP" not "Is your MBP too big?"

Sorry to bitch - I'm just tired of reading post after post about it being too big. Look at the specs on it - it's smaller and lighter than Dell's 17" Core Duo.

Damn... if it's too big for you - don't buy one.

Yeah, that is all I keep hearing. I am content with a 15" but a 17" would definitely be nice. I think because it still stayed 1 inch thin (like the defective 15" MBP I had which I liked), I decided to go ahead and just get the 17".

I don't need maximum portability and I get an extra hour of battery life (important to me) over the 15"

The 17" has a fabulous form factor. If you think it's too heavy, think about losing some of your other luggage...

I dont have a single Mac... yet, but if the pricing stays relatively the same, then the 17" is what i will buy.

Well said. 17-inchers are great for a lot of people, myself included. Don't knock it 'til you try it. To the OP: I can't wait to hear from the flagship owners, too! :)

In my university in certain rooms there's barely enough room for me to set down my 15" Thinkpad. I'd imagine a 17" widescreen might poke the person next to me :)

I'm considering getting one, if not this year then next when some of the specs will be improved.

For me, it won't be too big because I'm thinking of replacing my dual 1.4 G4 with it to save on space. My flat is incredibly small and I'll be able to use this machine in the kitchen rather than cluttering up other rooms with a large monitor and tower. Literally, a desktop replacement which won't be going out of the house that often.

As a print designer, by then I hope to be running Creative Suite 3, Quark 7 and other assorted design software on it so it'll be interesting to hear how these type of apps run on this machine.

So yeah, I'll be following this thread to hear of other's reactions to their new toys.

Too big? No, you're thinking too small.

Well im planning on getting one before the end of May. It is actually costing me £50 less than a similar spec 15":

2.16Ghz Core Duo
2Gb RAM
100Gb 7200Rpm HDD

Im buying this on the student discount and or what I get the cheaper price is amazing.

I was worying about the size aswell but it is only 4cm wider and 2cm deeper than the 15" and the pound o extra weight dosent bother me as i wear a backpack and ride a bike.

When I get it I will see how it handels and test to see if there are similar problems to the 15".

Woah... You have some hefty equipment for college...

Well I do programming but I want to move into video game design so I decided to buy some top equipment, that and I do webdesign as a part time job which needs quite a fast computer. to be honest I have an old Dell that I use as a Linux development platorm.

I hope to get rid of my Powermac and Dell so I can get an Intel Powermac and have all three OS's booting from it.

Plus I want to see everybodies face when I whip out a 17"MBP in a class ull o Windows anboys/girls......hehe

Like the last rev powerbooks, im hoping the 17" MPB wont have the issues that have crippled some of the current 15" MPBs.

Will let you know ones delivered. kinda looking forward to using FCP on the MBP.

Finally! someone else not scared to tell these guys to quit bitching!

Personally - I plan on having two.. My 17" MBP gets there in a few days. Once the MacIbook-whatever-the-hell-its-going-to-be-called is released, I'll order a nice small one for the times that I need to be ultra-portable.

Simple solution :)

Although I don't have one yet I do plan on purchasing one in the near future. The one thing just from looking at the pictures that bothers me about the 17" MBP is that they had a chance to put in a full sized keyboard in there but they didn't. When you have a notebook that big I don't see any point in having mini sized arrow keys or fkeys. Also having a numpad would be nice since I do use the 10key alot. I guess I'll just have to get an external keyboard with it when I do use it on my desk at home.

I guess its all personal preference. But the only people that would like 17" is people that use this as a desktop computer, and don't really move around with it.

I don't think that's true by any means. The 17" Macbook pro measures in at 1 inch thick like the 15", and the only true dimensional difference is it is bigger by 1 x 1 over the 15"

Most PC companies such as Dell offer a standard 17" Widescreen notebook about 2x the thickness size of the MBP and those really don't look HUGE. If you were content with the 15" MBP and carrying it around with you, you shouldn't mind the 17" MBP too much. Plus, it's always nice to have more space for your palms when you type. And I also like to load a lot of widgets so a 1680 x 1050 resolution resolution will suit me well =)

if you are using the 17" MBP for a purpose, such as design, etc... then it shouldn't be too big. however, if you are looking for portability at any cost, then go for the smaler version.
