I called up the nearest Apple store, and asked them if they had any good deals on the 17" powerbooks. They said they were selling refurbished (she actually used a different word, something like "refreshed"...) for 2,000 bucks! The brand new ones too, not the ones with the 100gb hardrives right before the update. My question is, once macworld comes around, will I see the 17" for cheaper than 2000? I'm 99.9% positive this is the computer I want, because I don't want a Rev A, and will probably be getting a rev b or c two years down the road. What should I do?!

I think it is definitely a good idea to pick up this powerbook rather than a rev. A if the intel powerbooks even do come out at this macworld. I don't know whether you should wait until after macworld to pick up yours or not though, I'm not sure that the price on the refurbished powerbooks will go down. It's probably worth the wait though. I'd say wait until macworld, and then pick up your refurbished 17".

If you want one really cheap and you dont need the newest and greatest you can do what I did. I walked into my local computer store and they had a 1 GHz 17" PowerBook sitting in the back. It had a 60GB hard drive, bought it for £500 (I think that comes out to about 1000USD).

I'd wait until after MWSF, IF they announce upgrades or plans for future PBs the price on refurbs may go down a bit. So if you can wait for a few weeks it may end up worth it. If you need it now, $2000 is a decent price and you'll LOVE your PB.

The thing is though...I have never seen refurbs of the newest version of the 17".

Do you mean the latest HD versions, or the model before that?

Well I have seen on apple.com the refurb 17's with the 100gb hardrive, but I was guessing that was a previous model. Is there nothing different between the 120gb 17's and the 100gb 17's?

Bump.

Can anyone answer me reguarding if the refurb pb's on the apple.com store are any different than the new ones besides the fact they are 100gb instead of 120gb? Do the refurbs have the new screen? Thanks.
