I am using a 17" PowerBook G4- 1.67GHz for more than 2 years now. Last week suddenly the display screen went off while the machine was still on and after restarting 2-3 times it was working normally. But this happened 2-3 times in 2 days and 3rd day my powerbook screen just went off. When i checked carfully i discovered that the screen was not completely off but only 2-3% visible. I showed this to service centers near me and also in Dubai when i was travelling, i was told that the display screen has to be replaced, it can not be repaired.
First I need to know what is the reason for the screen becoming dim like this, and have i done something wrong while using it?
Second if it's tru that it can not be repaired cause its 17" screen which comes sealed and not like other 15" or smaller powerbook screens which can be repaired.
If it has to be replaced what is the real cost for the display panel asembly in the US market.
i am completely shocked to hear the price i was told. i am hoping to get some help and guidence from all you guys. Thanks
