Hi people.

Any help with this would be most appreciated! It's quite hard to explain so I tried to attach some pictures but I don't seem to be able to do that with my account!

I have a 17" macbook pro that came out of it warranty last June. Recently the screen has been playing up.
The severity of the problem is different every time I use my mac book. Usually I can see the top half of the screen and the bottom half flickers around a mirror image of whats happening on the top half! This isn't always the case. Sometimes the screen just whites out completely when it powers up. There is always 2 missing lines of pixels across the middle.
I have found out that if a little pressure is applied to the left hand side of the screen, about half way up then this improves the chance of being able to see half of the screen. I have attached a peg with some tissue to cushion the screen so I don't have to hold it while i type this.
The screen has completely gone about 7 times since I started typing, once its gone it doesn't come back until she's been put to sleep and woken again.
The mac genius said he's never seen this before though he thinks its something to do with the connecting wire but says they'll have to replace the whole screen at a cost of nearly £500 which isn't affordable in any way.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get the wire from a 3rd party company? Or even if it is possible to replace the wire? Maybe it just needs reattaching properly or something as sometimes i get to see the whole screen for a short period (apart from the 2 missing LCD lines).

Thanks for reading this far!

gavin.
