We've seen lots of talk about the rear of this year's iPhones potentially scratching more easily than expected.

But has anyone found that their screen is surprisingly scratch-prone?

I thought the new Ceramic Shield was meant to be more scratch resistant, but I already have quite a lot of minor scuffs on the screen. On the 16 Pro Max I didn't notice any scratches until I had already had it for several months.

And no, it's not been in pockets with keys etc.

I am almost wondering if it is the anti-reflective coating scratching rather than the actual screen.

The AR coating is not on the outer surface of the glass.

I have no such scratching on my 17 Pro yet. So far not doing worse than my 16 Pro Max, fingers crossed.

I could be wrong but that looks like a screen protector scratch. Are you sure where you purchased it didn't install one?
Even the Apple Store will install on at the point of purchase.

The screen is easily scratched but is more shatter resistant than previous phones.

Always use a screen protector if you want to keep your screen looking good.

I picked up my 17 Pro 2 days ago and immediately applied a Spigen EZ fit screen protector. It fits so well that you wouldn’t even know it was there.

That’s simply not true.

Look at Jerry Rig Everything’s video. It doesn’t scratch until a MOHS level 8 is applied, it’s one of the most scratch resistant screens on the market today.

I find Jerry Rig Everything’s videos to be enjoyable and oddly relaxing. Seems like a cool guy.

I agree about watching his video. He does put those phones through the wringer. You’ll definitely know at what level your screen will scratch

Good to know! Glad they improved the quality of the glass.

No doubt the screen came into contact with something that gouged/scratched it or you have a jealous friend. I have never used a screen protector and never damaged a screen like that. Even after a year of use my 16PM screen looked like new and I did not baby it. Wiped off with paper towels and even my shirt at times and no detectable scratches. I expect my 17PM to do even better.

I was initially going to not use a screen protector because of the new screen meant to be a lot better in protection. However I decided to just get one installed by apple when I got my device in store. Just gives me that added peace of mind. I have my apple care plus and will be using the iPhone with no case. However screen protector I said to myself will be a must for me.
