17" RAM upgrade

Hi, my first day on the Forum. I am looking to add 1 gig of RAM to my 17" macbook Pro. Exclusive of price, whom has the BEST after market RAM?

I just bought 2GB for my Macbook from OWC for $265.00. Kind of steep but a bargin compared to what another 2GB cost me for my MacPro

SAMSUNG is NOT OEM for Apple any more than Hynix, Micron or several others. That said, I added a 1 GB SAMSUNG SODIMM from macsales to my new 17" and all is well. Don't overthink it.

You can't decide "best" by brand. Samsung has one model of RAM that is compatible, and 100's more models that aren't. Ditto with Kingston, Crucial, Hynix, Infineon, Micron, etc.

Also, there is NO performance difference between compatible RAM modules. Brand A cannot be faster than brand B becase the Mac sets the speed, not the RAM.

If you want the lowest risk and highest success rate, go with a reputable vendor who tests and guarantees compatibility with your model Mac. They should offer a lifetime warranty, and a no-cost return/replacement (no shipping or restocking charges) if it doesn't work. MR readers often recommend (In the USA) Crucial, OWC and Data Memory Systems.

thanks guys, i'm just a little nervous after spending a good amount of $$$, I don't want to screw it up by installing inferior RAM...

As has Hynix and SAMSUNG in my experience. Go with Crucial/Miron, Samsung or Hynix via macsales.com or Crucial and you will be set. Buy it, install it, and start pounding those keys.
