Wednesday last week my 17'' MacBook Pro Hi-Res arrived and yesterday I finally had time to put it out of the box. Actually I thought everything was fine but today I noticed that the lid isn't closing properly on the left and right edges. I didn't bother too much about it at first.
Later I created a second user profile for my girlfriend and when I was showing it to her I noticed that the system was behaving kinda laggy. Running the mouse through the dock and scrolling was totally not as smooth as I should be on a 2.4GHz machine without any apps running... this bothers me, especially after I was googling for any similar issue, found these forums here and read through a few threads. I guess you can imagine that I'm paranoid enough by now...
I was playing around with the screen resolution a bit to try if it was less laggy when it runs in native resolution but that didn't do the trick and meanwhile I'm convinced that it was a bad idea to get a display with such a high resolution - my head feels like it would explode any second.
Xbench is getting 10 less points when I run it in the other user profile (113/103), is that a significant difference anyways? I never ran a benchmark test before on a computer, the only benchmark I can atleast understand what it's about is SuperPi. In any thread I read that Mac OS X would speed up after using it for a while, sounds really crazy to me but maybe thats because I'm a former Windows user.
I'm not sure about what to do now?
-Are these "issues" I'm having with my new MBP a reason to return it and if so, will I be able to exchange it for the smaller 15'' model?
-Will I have to pay the shipping if I return it and will I still get the students discount if I get a 15'' model as a replacement?
The reason I got the 17'' machine was because of the Hi-Res screen what I thought would be a good idea because my girlfriend is a photographer and she would benefit from it but the first thing she asked was how to make the text in the Firefox bigger. *sigh*
What a drama! She can't read anything and I'm getting my braincells BBQed by Hi-Ressnes besides the system lags and the lid isn't closing properly.
I would be happy for any advice on this. Thanks in advance!
