Hi, been travelling a bit and I was lucky to get my hands on a Seagate Momentus 160Gb 7200.2 for a really sweet deal here in Hong Kong. Anyway, my question is this. The drive came in an OEM box with no documentation whatsoever. Installation SHOULD be pretty straight forward since I only have both the power and data connectors to plug in right? I did notice however a jumper setting as well. The drive came with the jumper on. A quick research on the net gave me 2 conflicting results. I know that the jumper is there to enable or disable the 3gb/s transfer rate. One website claimed that with it jumpered, it enables the 3gb/s mode with a separate website claims that to enable the 3gb/s transfer mode, you must REMOVE the jumper. I am at quite a loss here. Had tried the Seagate site but unfortunately did not find anything on this topic.

Any input would be much apppreciated. Thanks

Finally found the answer on the Seagate site but it was not hard drive specific. Apparently, you must REMOVE the jumper to enable the 3gb/sec transfer mode. Hope this helps anyone who might be dealing with this problem soon. I just kindda wish seagate included this diagram on its label like it used to or maybe put a small sheet of paper with the diagram along with the hard drive. :(

Almost all SATA 3.0 Gbps drives are jumpered so that they are compatible with SATA 1.5 Gbps...And as you found out you need to remove the jumper in order to get the SATA 3.0 Gbps speeds
