Hey guys any just wondering if the 17" LED models may be coming out soon. I am dying to get it and just want to see if anyone has heard or seen anything.

I am a designer and do motion so I really need the power and 17" screen size.
Is it worth the wait or should I plunge in right now without LED. Do you think they will release any other small updates when they do release it. Thanks

I posted a similar thread a while back. The general thinking is that the LED 17" will not be out until the end of the year at the earliest, most likely next year.

If you can afford to potentially wait until the beginning of next year then it will be worth it. The 17" screen without LED should still be acceptable, the only problem is whether you need the screen to stay in pristine condition for the next 2 years.

A safe bet would be to buy the 2.4 15" and save for a cinema display.

I'm currently deciding between the 15" and the 17" also. I think the screen degradation will be too much to invest £1667 on, I don't intend on upgrading for at least 3 years.

I have a feeling it will take another couple/few months before we see the 17" MBPs with LED screens...

If you can wait, just wait.. Umm if I were u I'll wait anyways :p

some people are so fickle with new technology. compare the real world difference between the 15 ccfl and 15 LED, and then determine whether waiting out for the 17" equivalent is worth it.

LED 17" screen would fix the common uneven illumination problem, but would another problem replace that?

What I'm thinking about is having the same yellow-tint issue once the 17"s gets LED.

I had my MBP delivered only a week ago I have neither yellow tint or uneven illumination. You could follow the histeria of believing every 17" or glossy or whatever screen has issues with them, this is not the case, if you see the thread about "MPB is perfect!!!!" you will see the positive posts about MPB and the screen. Just because this forum is saturated with people starting threads about their issues with screens dosnt mean they are all affected. I think tighter moderation is required to ensure things like this dont happen.
From reading recent threads you would believed that macs were plagued with issues left right and centre and no one would end up buying one.
You say "common uneven screen issues", its only common on this forum topic, it dosnt mean its common throughout the whole of the MPB owners throughout the world, it it was a real common fault, im sure apple would have something to say or a recall if it really was an issue at all.
I dont have a single issue with mine, no warping, no screen issues, no battery issues.

As someone has already stated the only difference in the LED gives you is no mercury, slightly better battery and very slightly brighter, but tbh I cant have my CCFL 17 gloss over 3/4 brightness, its way too bright. I really dont seen the need to have or wait out on LED just because its "newer". New is not neccesarily better, it may be cheaper or in this case more enviromentally friendly.

From looking at a side by side comparison of the 17" ccfl screen and the new LED 15" screen, I don't see any major difference. The screens were both evenly lit and looked very close in terms of brightness and overall quality.

The only reason for waiting is that the new LED screens won't degrade like the current ccfl in the 17". (This is just what I've read, not what I know)

On that note: does anyone have any accurate information on how much the screens will degrade over time? I will be ordering a new 17" Hi-Res MBP unless the screens worsen by a huge amount in a few years.

Well What's about Hi-Def 1920*1200 LED 17" MBP when it lunch?
and Do you think Apple will use ATI GPU on MBP again after change to nvidia in the current line I really want to know about this.
Thank you:)

Well someone say that ATI give the a little better pic than nvidia. and if you watch movie ATI is also work better than nvidia too.

so it made sense for apple to use nVidia chips over ATI's in the top range MBP's?
what you read on forums about one brand being better than others, benchmark comparisions etc... its all pub talk. in the real world there prolly is little or no difference, and if apple decide to use nVidia chips in their latest and greatest then that tells me they are the better processor

well i think ATI give me a better pic and Apple use ATI on MBP for a long time but when lastest MBP is on sell ATI didn't lunch HD2000 series for notebook so I think Apple may use nvidia for a while waiting ATI lunch HD2000 series for notebook.

but I want to know what Apple really think and what they will do use nvidia or come back to ATI? Well who know?

PS. Thanks for your opinion very much

Yoda, im not sure what answer your looking for or expecting to get? whichever brand of chip apple use in current or the next mbp is going to be good regardless. it makes no sense to be brand loyal. It really dosnt matter if you think ATI gives a better picture, because you get what apple give you and what they deem best for performance/cost etc... If you want the choice you may be better off building your own PC.
