18.0.1 does NOT fix the touchscreen issue on an iPhone XS over here.

After the update and restart, literally the first thing that happened is that the settings app freezes up while scrolling.

Has anybody else experienced similar freezes in 18.0.1?

XS was not one of the models addressed in this patch. Per the release notes it addresses the bug that “Touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive in certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models”

The XS is a 6yr old A12 based phone. 🤷🏼‍♂️

What's that got to do with anything? iOS 18 introduced a bug that and that bug can be fixed. The bug has nothing to do with what A-series chip the phone runs on.

What it has to do with anything, is impact.

Bugs that impact the most users, get fixed first.

Is this the same problem? I believe the issue on the iPhone 16 was that it ignored some of your touches, not that it was actually freezing.

You might need a new battery depending on your battery health. The XS seems to lag and stutter a bit these days but it shouldn't be completely frozen.

The 16 issue had to do with the Camera Control being blocked/obscured. Whatever's going on with the OP's iPhone XS is unrelated to that.
