Enters anniversary date into my contact entry and my wife's.
Asks Siri "How many years have I been married?"
Siri tells me my wife's age.
Sigh.
Asks Siri "When is my anniversary?"
Siri says "I don't know that."
Ugh.

Yet Bella Ramsey can ask her phone anything and get perfect answers. Maybe she's running 18.4 already.

If anyone thinks Apple Intelligence is going to be intelligent, then they are setting themselves up for a letdown.

Siri will amaze me sometimes with her intelligent answers, but other times she can’t do very basic things

It's weird because Siri (AI...18.1 beta 5) seems better on some things "Siri, when I get home remind me pay the XXXX bill"---"Okay---done" and I am reminded as soon as I pull up on the driveway.

However, simple things like "Siri shuffle my Christmas playlist"---"Okay---playing all songs in your Apple library". I repeat it again..."Okay, playing Frank Sinatra"....UGH!

Just to clarify, 18.1 doesn't have the new Siri.
It has A new Siri, just not THE new Siri. They gave it the colorful glow up and some on screen pop ups that look pretty nice. But it is still DUMB. Siri understands who my wife is. Siri also knows her birthday and can figure out her age. Siri just can't figure out what to do with the anniversary field that is part of her contact info. That shouldn't require any extra Apple Intelligence.

But the real point I was trying to make is that the commercials that were misleading in September are going to become only more obvious through October and into the winter. If Gurman is right, Siri won't get any smarter until 18.4 in the spring.

I'd be happy if it could just handle my shopping list when I ask as well as Alexa can.

Me: Alexa, add peas to my shopping list.
Alexa: OK. I've added peas.
Me later: Alexa, add peas to my shopping list.
Alexa: You already have peas on your shopping list. Should I add it again?
Me: Alexa, what's on my shopping list?
Alexa: You have peas on your shopping list.

Me: Siri, add peas to my shopping list.
Siri: OK. I've added it.
Me later: Siri, add peas to my shopping list.
Siri: OK. I've added it.
Me: Siri, what's on my shopping list?
Siri: You will need to unlock your device for me to show you that information.

I mean... WTF? Why is this hard?

Perhaps its because apple being a fruit it does not like vegetables so makes it hard to order them ;) where as Amazon is just happy to sell you anything

I still love how they're running commercials for Apple Intelligence when you buy a new iPhone 16....and it won't be out for 3 more weeks lmao

Does the Siri AI work if you change the language to US within the UK, I know it's limited but does it work.

Works perfectly fine. Only issue I have using a US region and language in the UK is shortcuts on the HomePod doesn’t work but works ok via Siri voice command on the phone. Plus HomePods won’t recognize who’s speaking due to the region difference. Very minor issue I can temporarily live with. If you switch the regions back on the phone then all that works fine again.

Hopefully we get the UK region beta soon, I’d assume the moment 18.1 is officially released and 18.2 is in beta.

Siri is better but not by much.

It can understand my accent now which is something, I guess.

We're going to need to wait for Apple to release all "Apple Intelligence" features and then the inevitable Apple Intelligence 2.0 😂

Should just go download Co-pilot/ChatGPT which is miles better. Apple have been caught out and are playing catch up.

Mine recognise it’s me who is speaking absolutely fine…as before.

Interesting, my 16 PM is on 18.1 B6 but I'm still using the main 18.0 release on the HomePods, wonder if it's because of that. Just tested it and the HomePod's still didn't know who I was until I switched my phone back to the same UK region.

I am running the latest public developer on my minis and latest release on my OG…they all work fine. I’m on a 15PM for info.
