I have Yosemite installed on a Mid 2010 MBP 13". It originally came with Snow Leopard installation DVDs before the Mac App Store was introduced.

I want to clean install Yosemite, but many of the standard applications came on a separate DVD with Snow Leopard and I'm not sure if I clean install Yosemite whether I'll be able to install the applications from a DVD of an older version of OS X.

How would I be able to clean install while still being able to install the apps afterwards? Apps like iMove, for example, weren't purchased from the App Store, so I would have to purchase them again to install them through the store.

What happens when you insert the DVD and try to install these applications? Will Yosemite give you an error message? If not, then I think you should be fine.

It’s a shame that you missed out on the free upgrades. A few years ago, Apple offered upgrades to iWork and iLife for owners of the previous versions through the App Store. Apparently that’s not possible anymore.

iPhoto, iMovie and I believe Garage Band are all included with a Yosemite installation.
