Hi

I am about to receive my Dell U2415 (1920*1200) and I ordered the 2014 Mac Mini

but i've seen some deals with the 2012 Mac Mini

i know for sure that the new mac mini will accept my new screen

but i was wondering if i would have any issue if i finally go for the 2012 MM ?

seems like the old configuration only accept display port 1.1a standard and quite low screen resolution

the Dell U2415 comes with a mini-DP to DP cable

will i be able to plug directly on the Thunderbolt port of a 2012 Mac Mini and will it display 1920*1200 smoothly ?

(i've read that the HDMI on a 2012 MM only goes up to 1920*1080)

many thanks for helping removing my doubt so that i can order a 2012 Mac Mini and ask for Apple to return the order of the 2014 one

You should not have a problem with that. The 2012 mini can display up to 2560x1600@60Hz using displayport.

my only concern is about the new displays using the display port 1.2 standard while the 2012 Mac Mini only supports 1.1 through its Thunderbolt 1 / MiniDP port

HDMI will work fine on that mini @ 1920x1200. That's what I have mine running at, to a Dell U2410.

Not sure about the HDMI port, but my 2011 Mac mini runs perfectly at 1920x1200 through a mini DP to DP cable. The display is a Dell U2412HM.

I have U2412 (same resolution as U2415 ) and I had my 2012 mini (only for 1 day because I returned it) connected to it via the included hdmi to dvi adapter and the resolution worked just fine, so you should be fine

thanks that's reassuring

i should get my U2415 tomorrow (i hope)

it has the following ports:

2 HDMI(MHL) connector
1 Mini DisplayPort
1 DisplayPort (version 1.2)

I got the same monitor with 2012 mini. It comes with mini dp to dp cable. It works at 1920x1200. Don't get any additional cables, no need to use hdmi.

Nice monitor, using with my 2008 macbook with mini dp to dp cable. Like that the power led can be disabled when on. Great picture. Would've liked 4k, but maybe in a few more years.

plugged it this morning upon delivery on a 2011 Mac Mini (intel 3000)

works like a charm, such a beautiful screen :)

can't wait to receive my 2012 Mac Mini :D

There is a(n OS X) problem which does not correctly identify the EDID of external monitors over HDMI on Macs in general. I just posted a fix for this situation. Please see my thread for more information.

received the Mac Mini yesterday, my Dell U2415 works just fine on the thunderbolt / DP port at native resolution of 1920*1200 :)

I'm running two 1920x1200 monitors on a 2009 Mac Mini with no issues (an Eizo and a LaCie, both very nice PVA screens).

M.

My 1920 x 1200 display runs perfectly on most connections.

One 2012 mini is plugged in via an Apple HDMI to DVI adapter. The other is connected to the same display with an Apple MDP to VGA adapter. I also have, and have used, an Apple MDP to DVI adapter.

The only combo that did not work was the MDP to DVI adapter plugged into the TB pass-through on my ThunderBay 4 unit. I suspect that connection requires a real TB monitor line an ACD.
