I used to have an ad blocker, think it was purify but haven't used any. I was reading that 1Blocker seems to be one of the best ones out there currently.

Do we still need one? Still worth buying?

What are your thoughts for / against ?

I personally prefer Adguard. 1Blocker X could have been a free update to the original app but wasn’t. Aside from that, AdGuard gets third party lists which are updated all the time, where as 1Blocker would take weeks to block a unblocked ad.

Does 1Blocker or 1Blocker-X update the filter list on the fly without needing app update?
In Adguard you can update filters, in 1Blocker when you turn a particular filter Off and then On again it shows a circular progress icon but not sure if it fetches filter updates or just the app setting.
If 1Blocker requires full app update for filter updates then Adguard has an advantage. Also Adguard support is responsive.
Also, Adguard Pro can block in-app ads.
Only thing 1Blocker can do on top of Adguard is blocking crypto-mining scripts (under block Trackers) though the new version doesn't explicitly say that so not sure if it still does or not and neither does Adguard say anything about blocking crypto-mining scripts.

I am finding more and more sites are detecting that I am using 1Blocker X, so I have to whitelist them. Soon it won’t be worth having.
