I think I have a defective Apple Watch. I put my apple watch on the charger one night when I went to sleep, when I woke up in the am the apple watch was extremely hot, very hot to the touch. I couldn't put it on my wrist it was so hot. I kept wearing the apple watch bc I have a crazy tannin where it was and had to be on tv the next day. A few days later I woke up with the watch on and the face separated. I'm assuming the watch got so hot that it melted the face plate off of the watch. I had also just updated my apple watch iOS and iPhone SE iOS, the next iOS may have made the watch over heat on the charger.

It also really sucks because my apple care ran out in may.

I couldn't upload the video I have of the watch so I added it to a youtube page. I will take the video down in a few weeks.

You should be covered under Apple's repair status with the battery concern.

Expanding battery is covered under an extended warranty. Either go to a store or call Apple

What does expanding battery mean exactly? I already talked to a Senior Advisor and all they could tell me was I had to pay $199 to get a new 1st Gen replacement watch.

The battery looks to be in perfect condition and is not swollen. Would it only swell when it would be attached to a charger? I'm assuming since the Senior Advisor could not help me over the phone I will have to go into the Apple Store and physically show it to them.

The battery in some first Generation Apple Watches were expanding due to a defect. Make an appointment with Apple and have them look at it in person. I can almost guarantee they will replace your Watch under the warranty, which it appears your Watch is suffering from the reported issues Others have reported.

A good battery rests against the back of the screen assembly as it is. It does not take much to push the screen off.

A couple of months ago my watch had the exact same issue that you show in your video. I got online and had an online chat with Apple Support. They told me I would have to pay $199 to replace it. I took it into an Apple Store Genius Bar, and they told me the same $199 price to exchange it for a replacement. I told him I thought this was absolutely ridiculous that they would make a Watch where the seal would fail in less than two years. They gave me the little spiel about how I should've bought AppleCare and I would've been covered. About six weeks later I was listening to a podcast, macOS Ken, and he mentioned this extended warranty to three years for watches that were separating from the back. I thought I was golden. When I got home that day I called up and spoke to Apple on the phone. The person who I first spoke to, after I told her how I had just heard about the new three year extended warranty, transferred me to a senior care representative. The senior care representative, after reviewing all the previous notes from my other call and Genius Bar visit, told me that my situation was not the same one being covered by the extended warranty. Mine had the face detaching. The extended warranty only covered where the circular plate on the back that you attach the battery charger to was detaching. She told me I was out of luck. I told her how ridiculous that was. Oh, she had also told me that that was just normal wear and tear. I told her if that was normal wear and tear, that I thought it was ridiculous they would make a product that would be detaching from the face less than two years after purchase. I told her, "thanks for pushing me further away from buying any more Apple products in the future." About 40 minutes later, my phone rang and it was the same senior support representative. She told me that she felt bad about my situation, had spoken to a manager, and that they were going to make an exception and replace my watch. Less than 24 hours later, FedEx arrived at my door with an empty box so that I could return the broken watch. That was on a Friday afternoon. Within 30 minutes, I took my Watch to the nearest FedEx drop off store. It arrived in California the following Tuesday. That afternoon a replacement watch was shipped out from Pennsylvania, and on Wednesday by noon, I had my replacement watch.
