1st Generation MBP vs Today's MB/MBP

Real world workflow, is there much difference between the first generation MacBook Pro

2.0MHz Core Duo w/ 2GB L2 cache w/ 2GB ram

and newer MBP that allows a bit more ram, slightly higher bus speed and L2 cache?

2.2MHz Core 2 Duo w/ 4GB L2 cache w/ 4GB ram

I guess a side question is how much difference does 2GB vs 4GB of ram make?

We have 2 Macs -- a 1G MBP and a G5. The g5 seems quite quick -- it also has 3GB ram and a 7200rmp drive. As I update the apps on my 1.8 dual G5 to universal versions I may move to the portable platform and sell my G5. By doing so I'd need to get another laptop for the rest of the family to use. So the question is: use our current MBP for work and get an older MB for the family, or search for a newer MB/MBP and leave the 1st gen MBP for the as the family portable?

The superdrive in the first gen Macbook Pro doesn't support burning of double-layer discs.

I have both a rev a macbook pro and one of the latest model macbook pros in my house and I use them both frequently. Honestly, I can never tell which one I'm using. Speed wise, there is very little difference and certainly not enough to affect your daily workflow.

i've used my friends 2.4ghz MBP and its no faster than my maxed out 2.16ghz rev a macbook pro. personally i am just wanting a glossy screen, FW800 (i miss it from my powerbook g4) and the penryn quadcore 1066mhz mobile chips due out in january. i expect that it'll be in the MBP at MWSF along with a redesign. by that time, i'll sell some of apple's stock and buy one using the gains i made off them

I was wondering this too, I have an intel core duo at 2.16 and my iMac seems so much faster (being a core 2 duo and 2.33) however, it still seems as if I have one of the fastest laptops around so I am happy.
