While I am a "newbie" on MacRumours forums (haven't used it in a long time and didn't know what I was missing ) I go right back to the Apple IIe and owing the 1st Mac in 1984.
I recently treated myself to a new MacBook Pro 11" with a great LG USB-C 27" monitor replacing my 2011 iMac 27inch and purchased a Samsung T5 1Tb SSD purely to install the Beta's. WAY faster than using a flash drive that is for sure. And yes I love the Touch Bar, I don't know why people complain about it?
In fact quite honestly I can't tell the difference macOS running on my internal SSD Vs the external SSD. Boot time may be very slightly slower than the internal one but very hard to tell as it is fast.
Also I recommend not installing the Samsung software to encrypt your drive, firmware updates etc. It uses a kernel extension and I found this very buggy on Mojave and had to take the T5 to another machine to get rid of it.
In terms of the Beta I am very surprised it is error free (so far) for all the key apps I use. Even things like Menu Stats is running perfectly.
It's also fast and Xcode11 with the latest Swift + SwiftUI etc is impressive to say the least!
I have a 2017 iPad Pro (10.5inch) and going to use this as my beta device.
I've ordered one of the new iPad Pro's (12.5inch) as I use the hell out of my iPad and with ipadOS coming out in September I will be using this for some "serious work".
I use iCloud Drive for everything and almost all of the Apps I use make use of iCloud syncing so it's a breeze to move between Mojave and Catalina and still continue to do serious work on Catalina.
Personally with all the announcements at WWDC 2019 I believe this is one of the biggest leap forwards for Apple in years and really shows the direction they are heading, which I think is a great one!
Based on my experiences so far there is a good chance I will upgrade my internal drive running Mojave to the Catalina public beta that will be released next month.
Seems to be an excellent forum here and looking forward to taking part.
Having been an IT professional continuously for 45+ years (and just retired) hopefully I can share some knowledge and also learn from the many excellent members I can see on the forums.
