My December 2018 15.6-in i7 MBP 16GB RAM + 500GB SSD. That's close to 200GB free after 4 years ! (well ... I offloaded some 100GB of photos from my decade old DSLR which I no longer have, to DropBox)

Wondering if I should go for the M2 MBP with 1TB or 2TB considering now I want to use Docker a lot for various web development projects which is notorious for consuming up a lot of resources.

I'm also on a 500gb machine with about 200gb or free storage, and about to upgrade to the 16" M2 Max MacBook Pro and wondering whether I should spend the extra cash for 2TB of storage. My gut tells me it would be a waste of money, as if I've made due with 500GB for so long, I'm highly unlikely to need SO MUCH extra storage all of a sudden.
I am probably going to stick with 1TB. I'm a mobile software engineer and don't use docker, but none of my colleagues who use docker are running machines with 2TB so I think you should be safe.

Thanks for the feedback Phazer - here the extra 1TB is approx $500 so was wondering if I should splash on an extra TB on a long term of 5 years for the M2.

Sometimes I think that even though the extra storage alone might not be worth the extra $500, the peace of mind that comes with it, over a period of 5 years, definitely is :)

Don't use docker, but created two test containers - getting started and list manager.

The docker container in ~/Library/Docker was 2.7 GB for 2 simple containers.

Memory usage was over 500 MB for two trivial docker applications.

Thank You for the stats HDFan.

I just found out from Apple chat that I can get a $565 off when buying under the student discount scheme in India - so am going to get hold of a college student and use that discount offer to have 2TB instead.
