2.0 Heat/Fans

I'd like to hear some more comments from 2.0 owners on heat and fans. Specifically with things like video - e.g. streaming video like Hulu, etc. And now that we have Netflix streaming on OSX I'd love to hear how that works on the Air.

How often are the fans spinning up to 6200rpm. Does it make a difference on an external monitor?

I've only had 2nd Gen a few hours but streaming HD video over my network from my iMac was smooth and the temp stayed below 70º Celsius. My 1st Gen MBA was running the same video and stayed in between 85º and 90º Celsius. The 2nd Gen at one point dropped to 60º Celsius. The fan is very quite but it was between 2500 RPM and 6200 RPM on both laptops. I have the 1.8ghz 64GB 1st Generation and the 1.86ghz 128GB 2nd Generation.

After watching a streaming movie on Netflix for a few minutes on my Air 2.0, the fan goes all the way to 6,200. The temperature, however, stays relatively cool at 66. The fan noise is very annoying. In general, much of the time, when I open a few apps, even if they are not consuming much CPU, and I'm not viewing video, the fan will go to 6,200. What is going on?? Very annoying... I don't understand why it would do that. One of the main reasons for my Air upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 was specifically to reduce the heat and fan noise...

prefabsprouter how much cpu is beeing used when watching a movie on Netfix. also is it HD?

Temprature seems ok. The fan going into "flight mode" is a let down. Other users have reported a different story tho, so it might be a problem with your computer or the fact that netfix is still in Beta and is poorly optimized for OSX?

Would I be hijacking the thread by asking about fan noise during "normal" (mail, surfing, office, one normal video, etc.) usage?

I can't seem to get a definitive answer on this by reading other threads. I've seen it disassembled, dev>nulled, gaming, multiple videos at one time, etc but not too much on everyday use. In most cases it seems that people are still saying the fan is going 6200.

without owning the new MBA i dare to say that for basic use fans wont be an issue. As in u will not hear them.

I have a 2y old Macbook 2ghz and while its thicker its made out of plastic wich isolates the heat making it really warm very fast. And i can run Logic pro without the fans kicking in.

THe MBA is alot thinner but it has a few other things going for it, cooler cpu. and a aliminum enclosure wich transfers the heat out of the chassi. So i fully expect the air to run cooler than this mb i am replacing it with

This is exactly what I was hoping was fixed in the Rev 2. That is very disappointing! Oh well, I guess I'll keep waiting...

i agree this is bad news=( But others have reported that the fans dont kick in that much.

I hate fans, cant apple put some damn ice in it or somthing that is user replaceble and just remove the fan alltogether;P

I really don't know why your fan is kicking up a lot. Mine seems to rarely go over 2500 with normal stuff like web surfing, Word, Mail, itunes etc. running concurrently. I can get it ramped up but nothing like my old rev. 1.

Maybe it's the Netflix beta?

I got my fan up to a little over 6200 by streaming HD TV from my iMac. It never really get's as hot as my 1st Gen under normal operation though.

Would someone please be so nice to actualy meassure the heat of the MBA V2 at the underside after a hour normal browsing, texting etc.? I am thinking about leaving my MBP behind, as it is way to warm to handle it for a long time resting on the legs.

It stayed in the low 50º Celsius temp range just using Firefox and Mail. At one point I checked it and it was in the upper 40º's.
