The new firmware raised the fan's RPM by 20. It used to 770. it's now 790.

I finally get to hear the fan at full speed during the update. It wasn't that bad.

Interesting. Wonder how 20rpm could make a difference. Sometimes i think it itd be really fascinating to have insight into these types of seemingly mundane decisions - though in reality itd probably be just that, mundane.
 
Like having 10p taken from your bank account every month by scammers!

The conspiracy theorist in me says they only lowered it to claim a "quietist computer" award, now that it's out there, each update will make micro changes and raise it by 20rpm until its at optimum cooling.

But you caught them out already!

Normally when I've done firmware updates there's a progress bar, but this was so fast all I saw was a blank screen, the fan when to full speed then it rebooted. Is that what you guys saw?

I saw a progress bar for maybe 2 seconds. The update was very quick. I haven't experienced the issues this is supposed to fix.
