2.0 or 2.4 20" imac.

I'm really interested in getting a new iMac. The only thing is, I don't know which 20 inch to get. I would get the 24 inch, it won't fit on my desk becuase it is too high . So, I have to get the 20 inch, which is fine.

My question is which processor to get?
I have a 1.66 Ghz core 2 duo on my hp laptop now, wiht 2 GB of ram and it runs fine for what I do. If i get an imac, i will upgrade to 3 GB of ram. Do you think 2 GHZ will be good enough, or will 2.4 be better?

Predictable answer I know, but It'll depend what you plan to use it for. I have the 2Ghz and dont use it heavily, and it is plenty quick. If I had the 2.4Ghz version I doubt I would ever notice a difference, except when doing processor heavy things like using handbrake. AND Im hoping Leopard will make mine quicker still!

Spend the lill bit extra and get the 2.4Ghz version, not only will it be a good bit faster, but the graphics card is better with the 2.4Ghz version (256MB instead of the 2.0's 128MB) You will notice a difference in intensive game action, etc. Plus, the 2.4 Ghz gives you the option of the 320gig drive and higher. The 2.0 only has a 250 gig standard drive.

Even if you don't notice the difference now, it may become important down the line depending on how long you use the iMac. Remember the graphics card is better as well.

Can't upgrade the iMac's processor or the GPU (or the HD without some effort) = get the fastest and biggest you can afford.

The 2.0 is the best value of what you get per buck, As long as your not playing cutting edge games you should be fine and I doubt there is any new Mac native game it wont play today. Sure the 2.4 is a lil more but the base machine is Apple's value leader in my view.

I'm not really a big gamer, and I still have my laptop that's under a year old too. And I have to get a MacBook Pro (or whatever's newer) my second year of college for my major. So I think i'm just going to get the base system. Which I probably shouldn't since I just bought a computer last year. Oh well, I REALLY want a mac.

I suggest the 2.4 GHz model for the better hardware.

I say get the 2.0 and save the green unless you have a huge need for the quicker processor (aka development and even @ that, development related to speed). Just my 2 cents.

I say get the 2.0 GHZ, probably. Especially since you say you'll be getting even another Mac someday before too long.

Just be sure to get your memory elsewhere, to save money too.

I have the 2.4 GHZ machine, and it is really really fast with 3 GB of memory, so I can imagine the 2.0 GHZ is about the same. I also came from a 1.83 GHZ Core Duo (not 2 like these machines), and it wasn't much slower, so 2 GHZ Core 2 will really be nice.

I think you'll enjoy it a lot! Furthermore, both machines are just as beautiful to look at!
