I'm debating upgrading my jailbroken iphone from 2.02 to 2.1, though I've noticed alot of people having difficulty with getting the 2.1 restore to work. I had been told that 2.1 allows for faster browsing, but another person told me that 2.1 caused their 2G iphone (my model also) to slow to a crawl.

Since most apps don't require 2.1 right now is there any real advantage over 2.02 that makes 2.1 a must get?

No actually my 2G iPhone backs up in minutes (I have at least 3 pages of "other" apps) and I would say browsing is the same, maybe faster but definitely not slower.

Unlike the 2.0.1 update that temporarily screwed my phone, I have found the 2.1 update to be great.

Definitely worth it, if only for the improved backup speed alone (among other small tweaks).

My reception has improved dramatically under 2.1. Where before I would have 0-2 3G bars, I now have 2-5 3G bars, resulting in fewer dropped calls and better internet access.
