I've been holding off updating all my purchased apps until the 2.1 upgrade so I could test for this bug with the latest firmware. I updated 8 apps today and didn't lose any user data. I've previously lost user data updating various apps with versions 2.0 and 2.0.2, using the same update method.

Obviously, one update session with the 2.1 firmware is not conclusive. Has anyone here lost user data while updating apps on a device with 2.1?

This was actually a bug with the Apps in general. Before, the old apps were deleted completely when updated, now it just updates the pieces that were updated, leaving preferences and user data intact. It has also helped that many Apps are now storing preferences online.

May I ask what your source for this information is? (I want to believe!)

Was the bug a firmware issue only, or would someone using iTunes 7.x still encounter the issue with a device running 2.1?

Anyone else have some information on this? Is it really fixed in 2.1?
