2.16 MBP locked at 1.0.. from core duo temp

i was playing with the core duo temp, and i realized that it says
Mini: 1.0Ghz Maxi 2.17GHz Current 1.0GHz

it says that no matter how much I'm running the CPU.. does anyone know why?

Thanks... if it's indeed locked at 1.0.. is there something I can do about it? i mean, i did pay for a 2.16GHz machine...

on the regular macbooks there is an option to lock the processor in 1 ghz mode by holding the powerbutton down for something like 10 seconds maybe you did that somehow? Open up 2 terminal windows and type yes > /dev/null into each of them. That will put both of your cores to the maximum. If they still do not read higher than 1G I would call applecare

Have you tried quiting and restarting?
I've found the Coreduotemp thingy to be rather unresponsive since the 10.4.8 upgrade, so maybe there's some software incompatibilities we need a patch for. Mine says 1.83 (which is max) all the time, but I know it's throtling, as the case doesn't get too warm, and it whines, which it only does when the CPU is not running on max.

do you guys have battery in? i have heard ppl saying that this is a power surge preventive measure.. which doesn't make much sense to me..

10.4.8 makes CPU at highest frequency, decrease battery

also, did anyone notice that after the 10.4.8, coreduotemp reports that the current frequency is always at maximum, with battery pluged in... and at minimum without?

i haven't tested myself, but i've seen people talk about that this dramatically decreased battery life... anyone noticed?

yeah I read that the macbook at least will throttle down to 1.0 if the battery is removed.

I've noticed coreduotemp showing the cpu frequency to be at 2ghz for the majority of the time - it rarely steps down to 1.5Ghz etc

I thought I was imagining it after the 10.4.8 update!

I suspect it's a 10.4.8 change that's causing this as the actual cpu load isn't high at all.

I'm also running menumeters to show the load on the 2 cores.

I notice that InCrew have a new version of speedit (which coreduotemp uses) out shortly...

pick up a book on unix or find a tutorial on the web. you are right it is really cool though
