2.2 Text Message alerts on lock screen

Has anyone else noticed that when "Show SMS Preview" is off and you get a text message, it shows the person's name now? In 2.1 it only said "New Text Message. Now it says the person's name and new text message, like it did in 2.0 and before.

Is it possible to change it to not show the person's name? I might downgrade to 2.1 because of this.

And what legal obligation do you have to give them your phone?
I'm also in school and if teachers give me that kind of **** there will be a fight over it (i get in pretty bad trouble sometimes)

If I don't give it to them, I get an automatic 5-day out-of-school suspension for insubordination. It's a military dictatorship over there!

I have never understood this reasoning (of the school, not the OP). I'm in grad school and the only thing professors do if someone's phone goes off is embarrass you in front of the whole class or make some comment about how rude you are. This is by far a greater incentive to make sure the phone is on vibrate/silent.

I agree that I wouldn't want the sender's name being displayed though. I've never thought of this reason though. For me, it's more of a privacy thing.

Most school districts have a rule of conduct / student handbook that they give out at the beginning of the season stating what can be brought in, what can't, and what happens to something when you're caught with it. The school district I grew up in (my mother is a High School principal in it) stated that if you're caught with it, they can take it, and either the parent comes to pick it up and the student warned not to use it during school hours, or it is kept until the end of the school year. I'm trying to find an online copy of the handbook (varies from school to school).

Not even cops can search through something locked without a search warrant. If they do that and I was you, I' sue the **** out of them.

That's absolutely ridiculous. you are in the school, you know the "terms of service" and you abide by them. Its not that hard, and saying you would sue them doesn't make you look cool. Grow up.

i just noticed the same thing. I was happy when they changed it in 2.1 to just say 'new text message' and am rather unhappy that they changed it back.

There should be options for this stuff. I hate the way text messages display. I don't like the pop up at all.

I actually wouldn't mind having them just show in the corner as an icon - maybe the SMS bubble with a "1" next to it or something.

If Apple could implement something like this then that would be great.

I've always thought Apple could do a much better job with the lock screen. Hopefully they get an idea from some of those jailbroken mods/themes because they add so much useful functionality to what is pretty much a useless lock screen right now.

I find it very frustrating that Apple just yanked this feature. Would it have been so hard to add another slider allowing me to say that I don’t want the sender’s name shown when my phone is locked? This is a privacy issue and a regression in 2.2.

I agree... Why did they remove this and it is a privacy issue, it was perfect in 2.1 why change it? Any workarounds for this (except rolling back to 2.1)?

For God's sake, if you don't want anyone to know you've received a text just turn it onto silent and (if you want it completely silent) turn vibrate off in settings. You can then check the screen covertly to see if anything's been received. Is it really that hard?

The OP didn't want his teachers to find out if he gets a text in class. How is turning off the alerts a useless suggestion on how to achieve that?
