Ive decided on the 15" model and a 23" ACD.
I wa originally going to get the 2.33GHz model, however I dont really know if its really worth the extra £350 over the 2.16GHz model. I can upgrade the ram to 2GB much cheaper. and im sure 0.16GHz would hardly be noticeable?
The only concern I have is the graphics card. Is the 256MB so much better than the 128MB? Obviously i know it will be twice as good but, I dont know if i REALLY need it. I work with the full CS2 suite at the moment, plus flash dreamweaver, after effects, final cut... I am at university at the moment and will be doing a little bit of work in maya in october so thats my only area of concern, however for the moment i dont see myself getting into 3D that much. Also would using mayay and the ACD at the same time really push the card? Thanks alot to anyone who replies.

Well I went with the 2.33/ghz and here's why:

When I bought my g5 I cheaped out and got the lowest one I could, the single 1.8/ghz with 4 ram slots. At the time I was thrilled with it, but in the long run I've found myself wishing I'd kicked in the extra cash for a dual processor model.

So when I was in the position to buy a MBP I decided to go for higher end model just so hopefully that won't happen again.

That was just my thought process on it, is it "worth" it? That's such a subjective question really, if you wait 6 months or chances are the next update will bump the 2.33 model down to the price of the 2.16. However the lower model may still have the 128mb graphics card and 1gb of ram.

comparing a single G5 CPU to core G5 CPU is not a good example here...

the difference betwen C2D CPU is very minor, approx 10% performance diff. if you are not into gaming nor 3D intensive applications, the 128MB GPU will be efficient for 90% of your daily use. like any PC, a good combination of RAM, CPU, GPU and HDD speeds which balance the overall performance.

this has been discussed time and time again. Please take the time to search.

To be fair dude I did look back 9 pages, and its not like im asking should I buy now or wait for leopard. Im sure its not a big deal a question that was asked 3 months ago been asked again. Its obviously not inconvinient to those above who posted to quickyl reply. Thanks alot you guys by the way. And thank you for the links.

I LOVEEEEEE the 256MB card. It games well (on XP) and Prey looked really nice also. I got my MBP down to 2200 dollars (after taxes) using the 20% discount from the ADC membership. So if you'd like, you could sign up for that (100 dollars) get leopard for free (perhaps) get some programming discs(if you'd want) a free 12-month subscription to macworld (which is cool), and a 20% discount on your computer.

So buy the 2.16ghz at $1999 (which would be 2200 after taxes)
or use discount and spend 2300 to get all that stuff?

Choice is yours.

(only problem is waiting for everything to get here - lol)

haha.. well said.

Basically I think the vram will be worth it in the long run, and the sppedbump, and ram dont hurt either.

no, you're asking the exact question in the threads i posted. read there.

scroll to the bottom, 2nd thread from the bottom. 9 pages my butt...i'll let you off cause you're a newbie.:) I have the 2.33 version. I'm sure a lot of the games i play will run slower with just 128. and i will be keeping this for a very, very long time unless something catches my eye..but in the meantime, i'm staying with this.

I stated I was asking the same question. I dont really see the problem? I did infact go back nine pages to 2 nights ago just genereally reading anything that caught my attention and may have been connected. If it annoys someone that someone started a new thread on a topic that was discussed before - dont bump it up by posting?

hehe you'll let me off? what you gonna do? get Jobs onto me :D

cheers for your post though. Some food for thought there :) I do plan on upgrading in two years time again to take advantage of the higher education discount and since everything I run doesnt seem to need the graphics card as much I think I might aswel just go with the 2.16 and uprgade the ram myself. But thanks for your post man, It is appreciated :)

I got the lower end MBP, and I've been perfectly happy. I upgraded the RAM myself, and the thing runs pretty fast. The videos run great on it.

I was happy with my purchase.
