Yeah, Geekbench only tests computational strength (doesn't include graphics either).

As for those CPUs, they both clock up to 2.9ghz so that would explain a lot of it, and otherwise the 1.8 i7 has 4MB L3 cache, vs 3MB for the 2.3 i5.

what japtor said plus the 13" air has 4gb of ram standard and the base mini has 2gb. won't make a big difference, but does add some points. and generally the i7 is faster than the i5 at equivalent clock speeds.

The RAM has the same speed in both. It does not add points. It is a simple measurement error.
well, these are my geekbench tests of the mini server:

32-bit 4GB ram: 8798
32-bit 8GB ram: 8911

64-bit 4GB ram: 9494
64-bit 8GB ram: 9660

i'm going to upgrade the ram in another mini next week so i'll do a before and after geekbench again.

Less than 2 percent (9660 vs. 9494) sounds not like a big improvement. However, in the real world 8 GB or 16 GB are appropriate for applications like Photoshop, Parallels, VMware and even Safari.

as i said in my earlier post, it's not a big difference. but since you said adding ram would add 0 points to the geekbench score, i was merely pointing out that it does. not significantly, but marginally. and marginally is still more than none.
