Hello, and help. I came across the site while researching video card upgrades for my mid 08 MP. It is a 3.0 dual CC with 16gb RAM, and I'm upgrading to 2 480gb OWC 6G drives this weekend. I'm using 2 Dell 27" monitors for now. (I'd like to find a couple 30" Cinema displays, or other 30" displays for a decent price.) I do a bit of picture and video editing, but mainly work with large PDF files for construction project plans. The PDF files are 100mb+. They open, but are slow and choppy when I scroll. A couple months ago, I upgraded to an ATI 5870. I didn't really notice a major difference.
Last week I bought another ATI 5870, and the plan is to install it for the second 27" monitor. The issue is that the logic board only has 2 power sockets. I found a splitter that will let me install and power both cards, but now I'm wondering if this will cause problems. I read where somebody did it with good luck, but others say don't do it.
Another thought I had is to return the 5870 and use 2 5770s instead. How much of a performance difference is there between the 2?
Lastly, Do I really need more than one card for what I do and the monitors I use?
Any advise would be appreciated.
