I'm interested in the 2.53 mac mini, but noticed there is a BTO option for a 2.66 version. Has anyone bought this one? It costs an extra $150. I'm looking to upgrade from my 5 yr old 1st gen imac g5, so i plan on keeping mac mini for a long time. I'm thinking maybe I should get the 2.66 while I'm at it.

The difference between 2.53 and 2.66 is something you'll only see on the paper or synthetic benchmarks tbh.
The $150 is better spent on more RAM, better HD or a nicer screen.

That's my plan. With a 500Gb hard disk too.

well if I buy the 2.53, it already comes with 4gb ram, which is the max I believe. A bigger HD would be nice, but I'm intrigued by the idea of putting an SSD in it. In 2 years i bet the prices will come down. I think I may put the extra money into a bigger display

Placed my order today... my first Mac in my life (always been a PC Windows guy...)... but I do have several iPods and a 3GS iPhone.. in fact, because I was very impressed with the iPhone, it pushed me towards a Mac.

Hope my first foray into MacWorld will be a great one :)

If you're buying a display as well, why not just opt for the iMac? It'll be faster, bigger HDD, and more ram slots. Plus you don't have to worry about wires.

'Cause if you play your cards right, you can get a Mini with the 24" ACD (an in-between size, compared to iMac) at an in-betweeen price ($799 Mini + $599 refurb ACD = $1398). Sure some of the specs on the 21.5" iMac are better, but some people like having the separate monitor (so they can replace the computer later but keep the screen).

Then again, skip the ACD and get this 23" Samsung from Newegg. Its 16x9, a bit wider resolution, and at $209, its way cheaper, too. Heck, get two of those and a Mini and for $1217 you've got a nice dualie setup.

i just got the new 2.53 mini to replace my old
2.0 C2D and am very pleased with the performance.
it also runs about 20 deg cooler.
