2.8 Extreme - Desktop or Mobile?

Sorry that I couldn't find this anywhere, but do we know if the 2.8 config uses the mobile version of the Core 2 Duo Extreme?

I'm fairly certain that it's the desktop version. I don't even think there is a mobile version, is there? If so wouldn't the MBP use it? Someone confirm this for me.

Nope, it's the mobile version. The 2.8 is apparently the brand-spanking new C2E mobile chip. Also, a desktop chip and its cooling apparatus would never fit in that sexy-slim iMac case.

I created the guide in order to have a central point of information so that I wouldn't need to repeat myself. I don't find that the effort in making the guide has helped me repeat myself any less.

So according to this article on the 2.6 version of the Core 2 Duo Extreme mobile, Intel has removed overclocking limitations.

Any speculation on how much more we could get out of this 2.8 chip?

Unlocked multiplier.

I'll wait until we can get a CPUID before we can say it's the X7800 or the X7900.

Do you have a fireproof desk?

The Dell XPS M1730 I'll probably be upgrading my existing XPS's to will have the X7800 - and that will certainly be overclockable (i.e. the actual use for unlocked multipliers). Problem is of course you can't stick it inside a laptop that presumably - since I don't have an SR MBP yet - runs on the warm side already, and actually make use of the unlocked multipliers. If the M1710 is anything to go by, I should be able to run the X7800 rock-solid at ~3.2Ghz on the Dell. I doubt anything from Apple has that sort of design leeway though.
