2 airportXprss..1 network?

I pretty sure I can do this but Id though Id ask.

Going to be using 1 APX upsatirs as a "external wireless card" on an old mac without an Airport card.

Want to use one on my stereo downstairs...

I can just join one to the other as 1 network right?

its doable, but expensive. getting an airport card for the old mac and an airport express base station would be cheaper.
