2+ boot volumes, 1 user volume - possible?

Can different boot volumes, containing OS X and apps, share one user volume?

Can this be done with all boot volumes being SL 10.6.8, but with some different apps? (want to try out Adobe 5.5)

Can this be done with one of the boot volumes being SL and another being Lion? (want to try Lion)

I don't want to have different user files to avoid juggling different accounts, specific preferences and work files...

Yes, just move your Home folder. This is what I did when I was testing Lion dev preview.
