Hi there, i got a nice Imac mid-2017 with two thunderbolt ports, one is already used for pro audio interface and the other for an external monitor (northing fancy, basically an old one pre-4K with HDMI and DVI connector). Now i just got a second monitor with the same connectors as the other one (HDMI and DVI) so what are my options here? I guess i will have to get a hub of some sort but i let's say i don't want to purchase a hub that will cost 4 times the cost of the used monitor i got.

Assuming the pro audio interface and the monitors don't offer pass-through, you could get 1 or 2 docks. If there is a dock that has the ports you need for 2 TV's that might work, otherwise you'd need 2 docks to get the TV connections, 1 with passthrough for the pro audio interface.

USB-C is a port, not a protocol.

You don't need a TB hub unless you have actual TB monitors. You do need a USB-C hub that supports video. Google is your friend.

From the hub, you'll need USB-C to DP cables, about $15ea on Amazon. Some adapters are problematic but the cables are not. HDMI doesn't always give full functionality on some monitors so go DP.
